Make your Space as Cozy as Possible

Remember when I said that fall is a time to get comfy? I mean it!

The autumnal season is time for rest. Don’t be afraid to get yourself comfy!

Here are some ideas to change your space:

  • Take out your fuzziest blankets and put them on your couch and bed;
  • Decorate for fall with your dedicated fall decorations;
  • Dim the lights;
  • Light some candles;
  • Get a fall-inspired floral arrangement.

By taking care of your space, you’re setting yourself up to relax in a peaceful environment.

Have a Hallmark Movie Marathon

One of the best things about fall and winter coming up is the influx of Hallmark movies on TV!

If you’re anything like me, you love the simplicity of it all.

So, record fall-inspired Hallmark movies, and have yourself a movie night! Relaxing is such an underrated self care idea.

Some of my favourite Hallmark movies are:

  • October Kiss
  • Harvest Moon
  • Autumn Dreams

Organize your Closet

Out with the old, and in with the new! Depending on where you live, you’ll need some warmer clothes for the fall.

Either way, I’m sure you have a fall wardrobe. Do some practical self care and organize your closet so that your future self isn’t stressed out.

Here’s a good list of things to do:

  • Get rid of clothes that do not fit, are stained or that are damaged in an irreversible way;
  • Put away your summer clothes to make more room for your fall and winter wardrobe;
  • Do a quick check to see if there’s anything wrong with your fall pieces.

Depending on the size of your wardrobe, this is probably going to take you an afternoon to a whole day. Trust me, you will be so happy that you did this!

Go for a Nature Walk

Fall self care nature walk

Even if fall isn’t your favourite season, you have to admit that the scenery is beautiful. Take advantage of that and go for a walk!

Even if you live in a big city, there’s always a touch of nature nearby that you can explore. Here are my recommendations for places that are scenic in the fall:

  • Your local campgrounds (which will be closed in the fall);
  • Any hiking trails;
  • Bird or animal sanctuaries;
  • Bike paths.

This kind of fall self care is good for the soul. Make sure you can relax and take in the sights!

Get a Planner to Organize your Life

While back to school season might be stressful for some people, the good thing about it is that you can find a bunch of yearly planners on sale!

Grab a yearly planner and take an afternoon to organize what your months are going to look like. This includes your appointments, special events, deadlines, and anything else you need to remember.

This is another form of practical self care, where you’re making sure that your future self is taken care of. So, get into the fall spirit and start organizing!

Sit on your Porch

Whether it’s your porch, balcony, or even some random park bench… as long as you’re outside.

Picture this: You’re outside, reading your favourite book and sipping on some peppermint tea. You can smell the fresh fall air, and everything is going to be all right.

Doesn’t that sound amazing?

Do that! It’s not too hot or too cold to sit outside right now, so take advantage of that to have a relaxing self care hour outside.

Clean Out your Social Media

If you’re like me, social media can stress you out. It can be hard to justify unfollowing a bunch of people on Instagram, even though their daily posts are clogging up your feed.

Autumn calls for new beginnings! It’s a major self care move when you decide to reduce your stress.

If the thought of getting rid of a bunch of people at once stresses you out even more, you can always start small. Make a list of things you don’t like, and unfollow people who fit that description.

For example, here’s a list I would make:

  • Get rid of anyone who leaves mean or passive-aggressive comments
  • Say goodbye to people you haven’t spoken to in years or acquaintances that have become strangers
  • Unfollow people who are always negative

Your list might look a little different than mine, and that’s okay! Baby steps, my dear.

Play in the Leaves

I don’t care if you’re an adult and think that playing in the leaves is uncool. It’s fun!

If you’re doing yard work in the fall, release that pent-up energy by raking up leaves and jumping in them! You can even get your dog, your friend or your children involved.

Just do it. I promise, you’ll love it.

Do a Sheet Mask

We all need a little fall self care spa night!

Sheet masks are relatively inexpensive, and are super fun to use. You can get a few from your beauty supply shop and have a sheet mask night with your friends (or alone).

Depending on how much time you have, you can make it a full-blown spa night, or just do a quick mask before bed. Your call!

Start a Journal

Starting your own journal can relieve so much stress, and even stimulate some personal growth. It has become more popular in recent years, so get in on the trend!

There is no wrong way to start journaling. However, if you’re lacking inspiration, there are a lot of journal prompts online that you can answer.

I have a few journal prompts of my own, if you’d like to check them out:

Journal Prompts for Self-Love

Journal Prompts for Depression

Journal Prompts for Self-Discovery

Journal Prompts for Self-Esteem

Even if you treat your journal like a diary, you’re able to release stress and start relaxing. That’s self care.

Use Your Art Skills for Fall

The fall season is beautiful, don’t you agree?

Use your artistic talents to capture fall in all of its beauty. You can paint or draw what you see outside, or what you love about fall.

Sometimes, self care just means sitting back and being mindful of your surroundings. By capturing things on paper, that’s exactly what you’re doing!

Have Weekly Meetups for Hot Drinks

Hot beverages just hit different when it’s colder outside. Lots of limited time drinks are being offered during the fall, so why not take advantage of that by making plans with friends?

You’re doing some social self care by making sure you spend lots of time with friends in the fall. You’ll be making lots of new memories, too!

Volunteer Near Thanksgiving

Channel your inner philanthropist and volunteer at your local food bank for Thanksgiving. They’re always in need of help, and you’re helping out your fellow humans by volunteering!

Whether you donate your time or some food, helping your community is always a good fall self care practice.

Take the Weekend Off

You can go on the best getaways during the fall season. Whether you stay in a log cabin or just go fishing for the afternoon, pause what’s going on in your life for a bit.

It is a really good self care practice to take time for yourself. When life gets overwhelming, developing good strategies to relax is essential.

Don’t feel guilty, enjoy your weekend.

Go Apple Picking for Fall Self Care

Fall is the notorious apple-picking season. Take advantage of that and go get some fruit with someone you love!

Sometimes, it’s the simple things in life that matter the most.

Get Into the Habit of Baking

There are so many desserts that pair well with the fall season. You probably get excited when you see Thanksgiving pie on the table!

A simple Google search will reveal lots of fall-favourite recipes that you can make at home.

So, what does baking have to do with self care?

The act of baking is meticulous. You’re spending time and effort to make something amazing. Not only are you able to relax, but you can get lost in your own thoughts while making something.

That’s self care.

Take Care of Your Feet

Summer feet are gross. You might have spent your time barefoot, and it shows. Or, your feet might actually hurt.

Either way, doing a DIY pedicure to get ready for fall is such a fun way to spend an afternoon.

Do a foot soak to relax, and make a DIY foot scrub to get rid of dry skin.

If you feel like it, you could even paint your nails a nice fall colour!

Buy Some Fall-Scented Stuff

I have the belief that as soon as fall hits, you need to overwhelm your senses with nice-smelling fall stuff.

Yes, that means candles, beauty products and skin care. All of it.

It has to do with aromatherapy. You will feel a bit better by smelling nice-smelling things.

So, light that cinnamon candle and have a self care shower with your Bath & Body Works Fall stuff!

Make a Natural Fall-Scented Potpourri for Fall Self Care

Again, when your house smells like fall, everything will be all right.

By simply heating a few ingredients in the oven or on the stovetop, you can make your house smell like an entire fall wonderland!

There are so many fall-scented potpourri recipes that you can use, but if you’re not feeling like doing that, you can just bake something sweet for the same effect!

Get a Haircut

A new season means that it’s time for a haircut.

If you spent time in the pool or out in the sun, your hair is damaged. Keep your hair healthy by getting it cut and styled.

For a lot of people, the fall season can be a good opportunity to change it up. Look up some hairstyle ideas and try it to see if you like it!

Fall is always a good time to start a new glow up challenge, and a haircut is a good place to start!

Take as Many Pictures as Possible

Fall is the time to make memories with loved ones. Why not keep those memories in the form of photos?

You can get crafty by making a photo album of what your fall season looked like. Take photos of anything that makes you happy! This can be your friends, nice sceneries etc.

Clean Your Entire Space

Again with the cleaning! You’ve heard of spring cleaning, but what about fall cleaning?

Clean your space from top to bottom! You’ll have a nice place to chill in when you come home after a stressful day. Plus, you’ll have an amazing sleep after cleaning all day.

Forgive Yourself

Everyone makes mistakes, but sometimes, it can be hard to forgive ourselves for messing up.

You are human. You can’t get it right all the time, and you will make mistakes. This season, an important self care task you need to do is learn how to forgive yourself.

You can do this simply by journaling about it or by talking through it with someone. The point is, you don’t deserve to suffer any longer.

Invest in Your Skincare

Any Skincare by Hyram fans here? Having a skincare routine is important in general, but having that habit of taking care of yourself is an amazing fall self care idea.

Start by getting some nice skincare products, and implementing a routine every day. There are lots of resources online to help you out with this process.

Just the simple act of giving yourself a face massage every day is so relaxing. Try it!

Cut Off The Dead Leaves for Fall Self Care

See what I did there? What I mean by cutting off the dead leaves is to let go of toxic people.

People who drain you and always put you down are just taking space in your life. Weed out those negative people! Cut off contact, delete them from social media or just distance yourself. Either way, your mental health comes first.

This might be hard at first, but you will feel so much better in the long run.

End Note: Fall Self Care is Important

Do you associate fall with new beginnings? I do.

The kids are going back to school, a new season is beginning, and the old leaves are falling from the trees. It’s just time for self improvement.

I hope you can implement these autumnal self care ideas in your life. Learning to prioritize self care is hard at first, but you deserve to feel happy!

Which fall self care idea are you most excited about?

Peace out!
